You're asking a question can't answer it now I haven't the conscience to remember how Your cool brand of cigarettes like matches we burn from winter to winter from winter to winter Drink 'til your old face can't say nothing new Shit keeps on happening it's not just to you You were moving in circles incurable edge you were wearing your violence you were wearing your violence You're asking a question can't answer it now I haven't the conscience to remember how Your cool brand of cigarettes like matches we burn from winter to winter from winter to winter

There's a shock of gold in the poplar tree Magnolia up the street from me Your bitter blossom more better than wine I drink it up in the summer time And oh, does life seem to be a series of failures and victories And all that I love is but a temporary shade from the abrasive sun above me I till the field in the blistering sun No I won't go home until the day is done The few memories that I could call mine We would fall in love if I had the time And oh, you're lovely, but your loveliness means nothing to me And oh, stay on the move, you've got nothing to have you've got nothing to lose I push and pull, try to mold it to me The cracks in the clay expose the naked body Cover me up with your leaves and vines, with your thick dark soil, and your long leaf pines And oh, does life seem to be a series of failures and victories And all that I love is but a temporary shade from the abrasive sun And oh, you're lovely, but your loveliness means nothing to me And oh, stay on the move, you've got nothing to have you've got nothing to lose

Won't someone teach us all the things that we didn't learn in school Life is rotten, love can be so cruel Summer's over Hush little darling, do what you're told You were living in a castle, but your room was full of mold And your paper umbrella is a boomerang And your lovesick liver will hit your heart All the blood and the water and the blood runs out All the blood and the water and the blood runs out All the blood and the water and the blood runs out Just to be sure it's real we inspect our own wounds, stick our fingers in so deep that we can't help but scream All the tissues, all the bones, and all the years come out All the blood and the tears like an ocean runs out And fear like a spear cut deep into your side All the stars in the sky, the stars in the sky... Blue, blue pebbles and white balloons Animal messages in wood paneled rooms Mountainous caverns, creeks and morning dew There were restless heads of yarrow kissed by feverfew But if nothing really matters, and we don't know what to do We get caught between the lines between me and you All the lines between the walls All the walls between empty rooms All the rooms between me and you Won't someone teach us all the things that we didn't learn in school Life is rotten, love can be so cruel Summer's over, and so are you

Moving through a darkened field Break out of your prison cell All that you know, All that you think you know, inside the belly of a darkened room The side of the hill opening up Eyes wide like a burning flame condensed down into a glass Drink it down, drink it down, drink it down... The devil you know The devil you don't Break out of your prison cell All that you know, All that you think you know, inside the belly of a darkened room The body that breathe The body that rest All of the liquids moving within the breast

How many feet carry me home In a cloud of white-- I wonder where you are Stalking the run, a herd of horses I'm coming home, with a band of horses A golden throne of a saddle to carry me in A velvet seat, with a braided trim Andalusian mare Flashing coat like lightning I'm coming home with a band of horses I can be so sorry, I can be so mean There's no way to repay you for all your suffering Do I want too much? Am I too young to understand? The world was so small it just fit inside my hand Don't leave me, don't leave me my baby cry I go out walking into a dark night where fragments of moonlight, broke up in the leaves start rusting, start shaking, start whispering to me Great fame and fortune are waiting out there Flashing like lightning Andalusian mare

Lovin’ is the easy party baby, lovin’ is the easy part babe You tell her you love her, you tell her you care, but who are you talking to? Who are you talking to? Are you talking to a mirror, or to each passerby bye, baby To collapse in the mold of the old linden tree Face after face, which one belongs to me? And what thoughts and what words of desirous will like violence and rainfall from the top of the hill My old man is a bottle of whiskey My old girl is a bottle of gin Mama wants to start raisin’ some children Papa wants to start drinkin’ again Sister you have been crying for hours-- tell me, tell me, what did you do? Sister you must water your garden if you want to see your garden bloom And you can scream and you can cry until the day you die, but it won't get you any closer to him My faith wilted flowers that drop to the ground like flashes of lightning and deafening sound and then move on the breeze as if living still on the cracked oil paint of my window sill Lovin’ is the easy part baby, lovin’ is the easy part babe Give me rest, give me rest I have tried my best Lord knows I'm tryin’ still

Run Run Run 04:40
Smoke through the window in the afternoon White wash fences in your green, green room There were rooftops for miles miles had shadows, and the people beneath all started to cry It’s only a body, a precious young body, a mind 'round the finger of a sleeping body Oh, why Are you crazy? Did you go crazy? Well you might be crazy You were a friend of mine You should have run run run away You should have run run run away from home Somebody's calling in the dead of winter Somebody's calling with a mouth like a flower Somebody's knotted a necklace of bibles Somebody's calling Somebody's calling for you Somebody's briefcase is as tall as a tower, and the person who greets them is a lithium blur, and the edges have ripples, and they ripple four hours, and the hours recede without acknowledging you You DUI young suicide You murdered youth You blue eye, blue eye Did a powder of words dust your lips? Did it cling to the tops of your fingertips? Oh, why? You should have run run run away You should have run run run away from home Did we leave you with a vulturous family in the white carpet land of American dreams?

Raven Song 02:29
Oh, to be a raven a raven anything under the sun you never wanted anything but a flightless bird Black as night twice as high as the moon you never wanted anything you had to hang on to To be a raven a raven murder in the winter sun you never wanted anything but a flightless fool I could be that for you I could be that for you Oh, to be a raven a raven anything under the sun

Many Harbors 04:45
There is an ocean, a salty ocean stretching from your front porch There are many ships who sail on this who've docked in many harbors like this Where one door is open, and the other is sad It's been closed forever, wishing it had a wind through the doorway, to mess up your hair and ruffle the pages you stack so neatly there There's a certain language to this that spins inside our mouth and goes like this: I asked my mother, "Doot doot doot.." My mother told me, "Tsk tsk tsk...” There are many things we do for this our prayers and our devotions for this But what can I do I've been working all day making a living trying to stay in one place Where one place is good and the other is bad and the mind would regress thinking it had moments of clarity, moments of joy There were moments of silence amidst all the noise There were moments of silence amidst all the noise There were moments of silence amidst all the noise
